People shy away from using LinkedIn because they think it’s stuffy. Boring. Corporate. A place to stick up your resume and then forget about it for years.
Much like the actual corporate world (especially recently) there’s been a humanization of LinkedIn. Over time, you can grow a personal brand on LinkedIn that attracts your ideal audience to you. A space for your thought leadership content that positions you as a trusted voice in your industry.
There are some truths to these myths because LinkedIn USED TO BE this way. But a few years ago, LinkedIn massively overhauled their algorithm. And they are continuing to invest in creators.
I conducted a Very Official Experiment last week. I posted this question on LinkedIn (stuffy?) and Instagram (fun!) to collect data.
In case you missed it, the post read: If Kirby swallowed you, what superpowers would he gain? If LinkedIn was still the way it was five years ago, you’d guess people might say:
SWOT-analyzation
Exceeding quarterly sales metrics by 200%
Something to do with deliverables and SMART goals
But … no!
People shared their superpowers: Empathy. Patience. Calmness. The gift of gab. Faith in the universe.
Remember, LinkedIn is not just about your resume. It’s about being a resource for the people you serve.
It’s a place to show up as the approachable authority and thought leader that you are, even if you don’t always feel like it. You can build a personality-driven brand on LinkedIn that’s attracts your dream audience.
Someone out there in your audience needs to hear that nugget of wisdom in your mind right now. It could change the trajectory of their day, maybe their life.
You just have to post it, and let the universe do the rest.
